The eco swimming pond.

Behind the pool an almond tree in blossom (January)

What is a natural swimming pond?

It's a dive into nature...

"A swimming pond or natural swimming pool is specifically designed so you can swim in pure, clear water with no chemicals.

Clear, clean water is the naturally occurring state in ponds and lakes if the body of water is large and deep enough. Swimming ponds are purposely built to emulate this state and are a prime example of how we can harness nature's intelligence effectively.

A conventional swimming pool uses chemicals to kill micro-organisms in the water such as phytoplankon (microscopic single-celled algae, which makes the water go green) and bacteria. However this isn’t necessary in a natural pool where the cleaning work is carried out by micro-organisms which exist together in equilibrium."

"It’s the perfect summer setting – sun sparkling on clear water, flickering shadows between reeds and darting dragonflies. There can be nothing more beautiful than diving into a clear lake on a warm summer day.

The key difference between a natural swimming pond and a conventional pool is the lack of chemicals. Instead the pond has a shallower edge that allows planning of specially selected marginal plants that filter and clean the water naturally.

All the tests that have been done on these kind of natural swimming pools have shown the water is up to EU bathing standards. The lack of chlorine means that bathers will be sharing the water with wildlife that has taken up residence, an indication of the waters cleanliness.

There are a few newts swimming in the pool and you can spot water boatmen and dragonflies skimming across the surface. It is largely weed free and, provided you’re the kind of person that enjoys swimming in natural environment you’re more likely to bother them than the other way around."

Just experience the difference of diving into a natural pond instead if a conventional chlorinated pool. It is a complete new sensation.

Because the eco-balance in the pool is very important there are a few careful rules that have to be followed so the plants
and animals in and around the pool can do their job of filtering and
cleaning the water and the pools environmental balance can be
maintained.

You will find these rules in the house and near the pool.
